Wes Craven Presents Mind Ripper (1995)

The genius of terror Wes Craven, creator of the Nightmare on Elm Street series, presents this modern-day Frankenstein story, a nerve-shredding warning of the horrifying dangers of scientific exploration. At Gentec 3, a former nuclear installation, a secret team of scientists are probing the very essence of life. In their remote bunker lab, they’ve created an incredible virus that’s capable of regenerating human tissue, healing wounds in seconds. But, in their efforts to meet the military’s demand for a “super soldier”, they’ve created a totally new breed of creature, it’s mutation totally out of control. Their genetic experiment has now turned on them, growing into a merciless predator that survives by feeding on steroids—a pure form of cholesterol found only in the human brain. Rapidly changing from man into monster, the more powerful the creature becomes, the greater its hunger. Mind Ripper . . . Fear beyond imagination. Horror beyond belief.

[Note: In 1994, Lawrence Mortorff, who had produced Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth was now working with The Kushner-Locke Company in Hollywood and called me in to do the unit publicity on this film, which had begun life some years earlier as The Hills Have Eyes III and was known as The Outpost while it was in production. The Bulgarian shoot was an enjoyable one, thanks to a mostly likeable cast and crew, and I had the opportunity to work with the legendary Lance Henriksen who is, quite simply, one of the nicest actors I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. The film was co-written and produced by Jonathan Craven, but although his famous father Wes was Executive Producer and "presented" it, I never met him. Jo Fletcher was my Publicity Assistant. I wasn't involved in the Canadian shoot. —Stephen Jones].
