In the summer of 2007, while I was compiling Necronomicon: The Best Weird Tales of H.P. Lovecraft
for Gollancz, I was fortunate to be given the rare opportunity to look through the British publisher's
original Lovecraft files, some of the contents of which dated back more than fifty years. With this monograph
I have attempted to catalogue for the first time a detailed history of the publication of H.P. Lovecraft's
fiction in Britain, much of it based on the material contained in these files.
